Overview

Raising investment is hard enough without spending weeks building your documents from scratch, in the wrong format, without knowing what investors actually want to see. When a startup goes into a fundraise, every investor asks for the same four things: a pitch deck that tells the story, a financial model that proves the numbers, a business plan that shows the depth of thinking, and a cap table that makes the ownership structure clear. This package gives you all four – built by a 15-year venture capital investor who has sat on the other side of the table for thousands of pitches – structured exactly the way investors expect.

What is it?

A complete fundraising document package for early-stage startups, containing four investor-ready templates: a 19-slide pitch deck, a 22-sheet 5-year integrated financial model, a 12-section business plan, and a capitalisation table. All four documents are built around the same framework – the framework investors use when they evaluate a startup — so your story, your numbers, your plan, and your ownership structure are consistent from the first meeting to the term sheet. This is the general-purpose version, suitable for any early-stage business that is not yet covered by one of our sector-specific packages.

Who is this for?

This package is designed for founders at the pre-seed or seed stage who are preparing for their first investor conversations – whether with angels, syndicates, family offices, or early-stage VC funds. It is also suitable for founders applying for Innovate UK or other grant funding, pitching to accelerator programmes, or approaching their bank or an alternative lender for debt financing. If you are building a tech startup, SaaS product, app, marketplace, service business, or any other early-stage company and are not yet raising enough to justify a sector-specific package, this is where to start.

Not sure which package is right for you?

If your business is an AI company, B2B SaaS, D2C consumer brand, fintech, or healthtech, we have sector-specific fundraising packages built around the unit economics and investor expectations for each of those sectors. This general package covers all other business types – and is also the right starting point if you are still figuring out your business model and want a solid foundation before you get into sector-specific metrics.

Why is this different from other templates?

Most startup document templates are built by designers or accountants. Ours are built by an investor – someone who has reviewed thousands of pitch decks, hundreds of financial models, and scores of business plans from the other side of the table. That means the structure, the slide order, the model outputs, and the business plan sections are all the things investors actually look for – not what a designer thinks an investor wants to see. Every document in this package is coherent with every other. The pitch deck and the financial model tell the same story. The business plan and the cap table reference the same funding round. That consistency is what gives investors confidence.

What each document contains

📊  Pitch Deck Template

A 19-slide investor pitch deck covering: cover slide, disclaimer, introduction, key highlights, problem, solution, product overview, business model, market opportunity, competitive analysis, growth strategy, traction, financials summary, team (two layout options for different team sizes), funding ask and use of proceeds, exit strategy, summary, and thank you. Structured to work both as a leave-behind document and as a live presentation. Fully editable in PowerPoint – all text, colours, and images are replaceable. The slide order and narrative arc follow the format that investors are most familiar with, so they can move through it quickly and find the information they expect where they expect to find it.

📈  5-Year Financial Model

A 22-sheet integrated Excel model driven entirely by a single Build Sheet. You enter your assumptions once – your revenue per customer, your growth rate, your cost structure, your headcount plan, your loan or equity raise – and every other sheet updates automatically. Outputs include: a 5-year profit and loss statement (monthly for Years 1 and 2, annual for Years 3 to 5), monthly cash flow statements, balance sheets for all five years, a staffing plan with salary, NIC, and pension calculations, a loan calculator, an equity and cap table model, a customer and user growth projection, and a front sheet summary designed for sharing with investors at a glance. All assumptions are yours to set. The model does the rest.

📄  Business Plan Template

A 12-section Word document covering everything from the executive summary to the exit strategy. Sections include: executive summary, business description and USP, market analysis (target market, TAM/SAM/SOM, competitive landscape, market trends), organisation and management (team bios, org structure, recruitment plan), products and services (product overview, development roadmap, pricing strategy, IP), marketing and sales strategy (channels, tactics, sales process, retention), operations plan (daily operations, suppliers, technology, quality control, legal compliance), financial plan (startup costs, revenue model, 5-year projections table, cash flow, breakeven), risk analysis (risk table with likelihood, impact, and mitigation), funding requirement (funding type, amount, use of funds table), the deal (cap table and exit strategy), and appendices. Every section includes an investor tip box explaining what investors look for in that section and how to present it credibly.

📋  Cap Table Template

A dedicated capitalisation table covering: current shareholder names, roles, share counts, and ownership percentages; share class breakdown; pre-money and post-money valuation for the current round; new investor allocation; employee share option pool (ESOP) sizing and dilution; and a round-by-round dilution waterfall showing founder ownership at each stage of funding. Built in Excel with formula-driven calculations throughout – enter your pre-money valuation and investment amount and the ownership percentages update automatically.

Format & delivery

All four documents are delivered as instant downloads: pitch deck as PowerPoint (.pptx), financial model as Excel (.xlsx), business plan as Word (.docx), and cap table as Excel (.xlsx). Compatible with Microsoft Office 2016 and later. All documents also work in Google Slides, Google Sheets, and Google Docs respectively, with minor formatting differences. There is no subscription, no recurring charge, and no account required beyond your purchase.

FAQ Section

Add these as an accordion or simple text block at the bottom of the product page. Each question targets a specific long-tail search query and can appear as a Google rich snippet.

What’s included in the package?

Four documents: a 19-slide pitch deck template (PowerPoint), a 22-sheet 5-year integrated financial model (Excel), a 12-section business plan (Word), and a cap table template (Excel). All four are structured for early-stage startups preparing to raise investment.

Do I need finance or design experience to use these?

No. The financial model is driven by a single Build Sheet – you enter your assumptions and everything else calculates automatically. The pitch deck, business plan, and cap table are all fully editable templates with clear guidance on what to include in every section. We also include a video tutorial for the financial model walking you through how to populate it from scratch.

What’s the difference between this package and the sector-specific packages?

The sector-specific packages (AI, B2B SaaS, D2C Consumer, Fintech, Healthtech) are pre-structured around the unit economics, cost lines, investor vocabulary, and exit comparables specific to each business type. This general package is designed for any early-stage startup and uses a universal framework that works across business models. If your business fits one of the five sectors, we recommend the sector-specific version. If it doesn’t, or if you’re still figuring out your model, this is the right starting point.

Can I use these documents for a pre-revenue startup?

Yes. All four documents are designed for pre-revenue and early-revenue stages. The financial model projects forward from zero. The pitch deck and business plan include guidance on how to present a compelling investment case before you have trading history – because most seed-stage raises happen before significant revenue.

Are these documents designed for UK investors?

Yes. The business plan references UK regulatory and corporate requirements including Companies House, HMRC, and the ICO. The financial model uses GBP (£) by default. The cap table includes SEIS and EIS eligibility notes. All documents are fully editable and can be adapted for raises in other jurisdictions.

Can I use these documents to apply for a grant, accelerator, or bank loan?

Yes. The business plan and financial model are suitable for Innovate UK applications, accelerator programme applications, startup loan applications, and angel or seed equity raises. The pitch deck is primarily designed for equity investor meetings but can be adapted as a presentation for any audience.

What if I get stuck filling the documents in?

We offer email support for all customers at orders@modelsforstartups.com. We also include a video tutorial for the financial model. If you need more structured support with your fundraising documents, contact us and we can discuss what additional help is available.
